Barnes & Noble announces Nook HD+ 9-inch tablet, we go hands-on (video)

Barnes & Noble announces Nook HD, we go handson

Sure we heard some early rumblings about a new tablet from Barnes & Noble, and no, we can't say we were particularly surprised by the revelation -- after all, no one expected the bookstore to sit idly by and let Amazon own the holiday shopping season with its freshly souped-up Kindle Fire line. But the company did manage to offer up a few surprises with today's announcement -- biggest of all (literally, in fact) was the launch of a 9-incher, the Nook HD+. And where the HD borrowed some style cues from B&N's Simple Touch line, its bigger brother is the aesthetic descendent of Nook tablets past, borrowing that long, skinny body and even offering up a winking reference to the carabiner that lent such a dramatic distinction to past products.

That said, we're not simply repeating the move from Nook Color to Nook Tablet here. The Nook HD+ is a far more significant upgrade, even as it pays a little tribute to its predecessors. Barnes & Noble's really gunning to make a splash in the budget tablet space this holiday season, and while the company's clearly betting on the smaller and cheaper HD to be the big seller, a company rep told us that he expects that HD+ to be a sleeper hit for the company. And certainly it's easy to see why the company's got some confidence this time around -- the device is sleek, fast, hi-res and affordable. But can it succeed in such a cutthroat market? Check out some impressions after the break and judge for yourself.

2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid: Active Noise Cancellation Helps Deliver ...

DEARBORN, Mich., Sept. 26, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --?

  • All-new 2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid delivers EPA-certified 47 mpg city and 47 mpg highway for a 47 mpg combined rating, with Active Noise Cancellation technology
  • Fusion Hybrid engineers tuned the gasoline engine more efficiently in rpm ranges that typically produce unpleasant powertrain sounds, now suppressed by an advanced noise cancellation system to give driver and passengers a quiet ride

Powertrain noise in the all-new Ford Fusion Hybrid is like the proverbial tree that fell in the forest. With Active Noise Cancellation technology on board, if you don't hear it, is it really even there?

Active Noise Cancellation technology helps enable the 2013 Fusion Hybrid sedan to deliver EPA-certified 47 mpg city and 47 mpg highway ratings that combine for 47 mpg overall.

The fuel economy connection may not be obvious, but Active Noise Cancellation allows Ford engineers to tune the car for more fuel-efficient operation.

Calibrating an engine requires careful balance between delivering the desired performance with the lowest possible fuel consumption and emissions, all while keeping it pleasant to drive.

"The Fusion Hybrid leverages this advanced technology to help deliver maximum fuel economy for the customer," said Henry Ford Technical Fellow for NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness) Dr. Takeshi Abe. "Reduced powertrain noise in the passenger compartment becomes the icing on the cake."

Website - http://www.ford.comYet to achieve peak fuel economy, a creative solution must be applied harnessing advanced audio technology to eradicate this unwanted sound.

A predictive control system notes driver behavior and how the engine responds, anticipating noise before it is even generated.

Three highly sensitive microphones are mounted in the Fusion Hybrid's interior headliner ? two over the first seating row and one over the rear ? to detect and measure engine noise. These microphones send a signal to the Active Noise Cancellation control module in real time.

The module instantaneously and continuously generates opposing sound waves. This reversed wave is directed through the Fusion Hybrid's audio system, combining with the original engine noise wave to cancel out any potentially objectionable sound.

The combination of the proactive and reactive signals ultimately provides a more pleasing effect for driver and passengers.

The infographic below depicts Active Noise Cancellation technology at work, showing the movement pattern of sound travel within the car. The lower panel depicts the cancellation of unwanted sounds, resulting in minimized residual noise.

The Fusion Hybrid appears in Ford dealerships nationwide this fall.

Eye in the Sky: Drones Help Conserve Sumatran Orangutans and Other Wildlife

conservation drone launchWhat better way to study the world?s largest arboreal animals than by putting an eye in the sky? A team of scientists working in Indonesia has done just that by launching inexpensive unmanned aerial vehicles (aka drone airplanes), to study critically endangered Sumatran orangutans (Pongo abelii) from above the treetops. The technology is already being put into use in other conservation projects around the world.

Autonomous drones can help scientists and conservationists to inexpensively collect timely, high-resolution data, says Serge Wich, professor at the Research Center in Evolutionary Anthropology and Paleoecology at Liverpool John Moores University. Wich and his partner, Lian Pin Koh, assistant professor of applied ecology and conservation at ETH Zurich, who are studying orangutans on the Indonesian island of Sumatra, have developed a lightweight drone system that costs about $2,000?including the batteries, software, cameras and flight stabilizers. Other commercially available drones, by comparison, cost as much as $50,000. Wich and Koh have set up a Web site, ConservationDrones.org, to help spread the technology around the world, and have recently consulted on similar projects in Nepal, Malaysia and Gabon.

Sumatra deforestation

A drone photo of Sumatran deforestation

The duo first tested the drones in Sumatra in February, when they were able to capture video and photographs of orangutans and elephants. The drones also came back with striking images of Sumatra?s deforestation, caused by logging and palm oil plantations. The rapid destruction of the island?s forests (both legally and illegally) has devastated its native orangutans, which have lost about 80 percent of their population over the past 75 years to about 7,300 animals. (The related Bornean orangutan species, P. pygmaeus, also suffers from the effects of deforestation and its population is estimated at fewer than 45,000 animals.)

After working out some of the initial kinks, Wich and Koh returned to Sumatra earlier this month where they achieved a goal they weren?t able to accomplish the first time around: capturing photographs of orangutan nests high in the trees, information that will help inform future conservation activities.

I spoke with Wich about the research and their work to develop drones for conservation.

[An edited transcript of the interview follows.]

What problems are you trying to solve with these drones?
As conservation researchers, one of the main problems we have is that we?re almost always behind the facts on the ground. These areas are huge and difficult to monitor on a regular basis, so doing ground surveys is not the answer unless we had millions of dollars to do this all the time. So we need a means to get effective, timely and high-resolution data. Drones can help us with this because we can fly them whenever we like, and they provide us with high-resolution data whenever we like.

What do you hope to learn from these missions, and how will it be applied to conservation?
Our main aim with this is that we have a system which enables us to monitor the distribution and abundance of orangutan populations much faster than we can now. We just finished a Sumatra distribution-wide orangutan survey, which took us about two and a half years and cost about $250,000 dollars. That?s a fantastic data set but it?s not something we can do every year, because it takes longer than a year and it?s not something we can fund every year. So these drones will be a system that we can use to fly over the forest edge every month if we like, or every week, to check what?s going on there. If there?s illegal encroachment, we can inform the authorities. We don?t learn it from a satellite image that we get half a year or a year later; we get it much faster, and that will hopefully enable us to react much faster to changes on the ground.

You don?t see what the drone sees while it?s in the air, right? You program their flight path, let them go and then look at the data when they return.
We?re looking into getting a system that provides us live feedback from the video, but at the moment you have to wait until it lands to see the images. The flight path is really simple to program. It?s basically just a Google Earth or Google Map satellite and you plop in waypoints and load it into the autopilot on the plane. That?s all thanks to the do-it-yourself drone folks. They make this autopilot and the software for you.

You overcame some technical challenges with your mission this month.
The main challenge in the beginning was to get high-resolution stills. Video went fine from the start, but for stills there was often motion blur. The plane flies really fast and if you have a long shutter time on the camera that won?t work. We had to fiddle a lot with the camera settings and develop a system that would dampen some of the plane?s vibrations?which ended up being a very simple kitchen sponge.

Orangutan nests

A collage of images of orangutan nests photographed by conservation drones

Getting back to the orangutans, are the plantations that you saw legal or illegal?
It?s often a mixture. Surely in Indonesia there are a lot of legal concessions, either oil palm or timber, that take over forests. But at the same time there?s a lot of illegal encroachment on the forest edges.

How close to the plantations were the orangutan nests?
Very close. You basically still find them in plantations as well, although we didn?t fly over plantations yet. You find them up until the edge of the forest, and also in habitat that?s partially converted. Orangutans are quite hardy in that sense. The females in particular don?t move away. They?ll hang on to any tree they have until they starve or are captured.

Do the nests degrade quickly? Could some of the nests you saw be months or years old?
Orangutans make new nests every day. They?re pretty active nest builders. We can usually tell a little bit about the age of a nest from a photo but not all that much. They?re remarkably sturdy depending on the areas where you?re in. In some areas they can easily last for a year or sometimes two years. They?re great, pretty thick branches.

Is your main goal research or conservation?
It?s a mixture of both. I really hope that we?ll be able to use these drones to monitor populations in pristine areas, so it will give us information on how these populations fluctuate in their natural habitats, what kind of trees they use, what their densities are and how that relates to environmental variables. But at the same time, we can use these drones to monitor habitat changes and help us in conserving orangutans and other species.

What?s next for your work in Sumatra?
There are a few things that we?re planning. The first, now that we know we can detect nests, is to do a proper study where we do ground surveys and aerial surveys and see if we get the same numbers. And the second part will be to deploy other types of cameras. We?re looking into thermal imaging to see if we can detect orangutans by those means. That will be very interesting to put those up on a drone and fly them at dusk and dawn and see what we get.

What was the purpose for setting up ConservationDrones.org?
The aim of the site is really to distribute everything that we learned from our work so anybody who wants to build the same drone as we use can do that with the information on our Web site. For us, it is really trying to bring this technology to every corner of the conservation world and especially into areas where there?s not so much money?so [it would be] where an NGO [nongovernmental organization] needs a system that is simple and that they can fix themselves and that provides them with a sustainable tool in their tool kit, instead of a very expensive drone from an expensive company.

You?re also consulting with the WWF on using drones in Nepal to try to prevent poaching of tigers, elephants and rhions.
That?s our technology. Lian, my colleague, just came back from training many people there. We were there together a few months ago to do a demonstration. It?s one of our bigger projects at the moment.

What exactly are drones in Nepal looking for?
It could either be the humans directly or traces of human activity, like people making fires. If there are poachers drying bushmeat, for instance, you would see that smoke above a forest and you would know that there are people there that are actively doing things like that?and then you can send a ground team in to try to prevent people from doing that.

What?s your next hope for this technology?
We are working with some people so that hopefully in the not-too-distant future we will have a system that can detect objects directly on the video?like fires or people or elephants or whatever?so that when you look at a video, either live or when the drone lands, it tells you where those items of interest are. That would help the response time of antipoaching patrols but it would also facilitate any scientific research, as it?s quite a lot effort to go through thousands of photos to look for particular objects. We can automate that and an algorithm would just look for elephants, for example, in all of those images. That would help us a lot to use these drones even more effectively. That?s something we?re working on with several university people.

(AP) ? South Korean rapper PSY finds his success with "Gangnam Style" so unreal that he wonders if he's being tricked into believing it ? like Jim Carrey in "The Truman Show."

PSY said Tuesday in a press conference in Seoul that he cried in disbelief when his song entered the Billboard 100 earlier this month. The 34-year-old now says he'll go topless in joy on a stage if "Gangnam Style" tops the chart. The song's at number 11 this week.

The music video for "Gangnam Style" has more than 270 million YouTube views and counting. People around the world are mimicking PSY's horse-riding dance in the video.

In the 1998 movie "The Truman Show," Carrey plays a man unaware that he lives in a reality television show.

Ustream?s Broadcast For Friends App Adds Support For Facebook Open Graph And Posting To Fan Pages

ustream main screenshotJust about a month ago, we wrote about Ustream's new Broadcast for Friends app, which for the first time let users broadcast live directly within Facebook, so that their friends could watch those videos in their Timelines or News Feeds. The idea was to simplify the experience, so that users no longer have to go through the whole process of creating a Ustream account, finding the correct link and then sharing it with friends. Well, so far so good. But there were a few things missing. Apparently Ustream started getting desperate calls from brands and agencies and celebrities. "Please, Ustream, let us post videos to our fan pages, where they could reach an even greater audience of users!" those brands and agencies and celebrities demanded. And so, not wanting to let its loyal users down, Ustream has updated the app to do just that.

Scientists hope gene breakthrough could help men with breast cancer

Scientists have found a gene which can increase the risk of male breast cancer by 50 per cent, after the world's largest study into the disease.

Screening of the genetic codes of more than 800 male breast cancer patients, mainly from the UK, has revealed that mutations in one particular gene play a role in the disease, and could herald the development of new treatments specifically for men.

Very little is known about the causes of male breast cancer, which is diagnosed in 350 men in the UK every year, compared with 48,000 women. Previously researchers uncovered that faulty BRCA2 genes are involved in around 10 per cent of male breast cancer cases but they have now established that faulty RAD51B genes, which have also been found to increase the risk of breast cancer in women, also play a role in the disease in men.

Dr Nick Orr, a group leader at the Breakthrough Breast Cancer Research Centre at The Institute of Cancer Research, London, and one of the study's authors, said: "This study represents a leap forward in our understanding of male breast cancer."

The research published today in Nature Genetics will help doctors predict whether men are more at risk of developing breast cancer. " For a general man in the population this latest news isn't that significant because the risk of breast cancer in males is already so low," Dr Orr said. "But for people who are already at high risk of breast cancer, for example men who have mutations in the BRCA2 gene, having this extra information could really help our ability to predict whether they are going to get the disease or not."

Scientists from the Breakthrough Breast Cancer Research Centre were part of an international research team involved in the Genome-Wide Association Study (GWAS), which investigated 447,000 alterations in the DNA of participants as part of a wider four-year-long study. Scientists now hope to build on the success of the GWAS' findings to identify further causes of both male and female breast cancer.

Case study

Andrew Tokely, 47, is a horticulturalist from Capel St Mary, Suffolk. He is now in remission after being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009.

When I was diagnosed with breast cancer I didn't even know men could get the disease. A lot of people didn't know what to say, so they didn't say anything. But most people were shocked because, like me, you just don't hear of men with breast cancer. One charity calls it 'the women's fight,' and very few mention that it can happen to men. There's stupid things too, like the medication we're put on afterwards, tamoxifen. Nothing on that leaflet or packet gives you a side-effect for a man.

But you get them.

BMW F10M M5 and F12M M6 Delivery Stopped Due to Engine Oil Pump Issues

BMW, Car News ? By MR on September 23, 2012 at 8:46 pm ? No Comments

Road Test 2012 BMW F10M M5 01

BMW has released that they will stop the delivery of the 2013 BMW M5, M6 Coupe, and M6 Convertible and recall the models produced between July 2012 and September 2012 due to an engine oil pump issue. The pump driveshaft can separate from the pump rotor. If this were to occur, the engine could experience a sudden loss of oil pressure which could cause severe engine damage.

Approximately 696 vehicles in the US are potentially affected. The engine oil pump will be replaced. This repair may take two and a half hours; however, additional time may be required depending upon the center?s scheduling and processing. The repair will be performed free of charge by your authorized BMW center.

BMW recommends that owners of affected vehicles do not drive their vehicle until this Recall can be completed. If the vehicle experiences a sudden loss of oil pressure, carefully pull over to the side of the road and shut off the engine.

The BMW Customer Relations department is calling owners of affected vehicles, advising to them discontinue driving the vehicle until the Recall has been completed. For any questions contact BMW Roadside Assistance at 1-800-332-4269.

(AP) ? Her ride's here.

Bruce Springsteen's daughter has bought a gold medal-winning horse from the London Olympics with hopes of competing for the United States in showjumping at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Peter Charles rode Murka's Vindicat W in a jump-off to clinch the Olympic team title for Britain last month. He says the 10-year-old gelding has been sold to Jessica Springsteen.

Charles says on his Facebook page, "I wish Jessica the best of luck with him and I am sure he will make her proud, too."

The fee paid for the horse known as "Vinnie" wasn't disclosed.

The 20-year-old rock star's daughter started riding at age 5 and missed the cut for the U.S. Olympic equestrian team for London.

(RNS) As Muslim Americans try to make sense of the violent demonstrations in some 20 Muslim-majority countries triggered by an anti-Islamic film, President Obama and dozens of Muslim leaders will be attending the United Nations General Assembly in New York next week (Sept. 25-Oct.1).

One of those leaders will be President Mohamed Morsi of Egypt, the first country to protest against the film, and where demonstrators scaled the walls of the American embassy and replaced the American flag with a flag bearing the Islamic declaration of faith.?

In July, advisers to Morsi, a leading member of the Islamist organization known as the Muslim Brotherhood, claimed that Obama had invited Morsi to a meeting when he visits the United States. The White House, the U.S. State Department, and the Egyptian embassies in Washington and New York, however, did not confirm such a meeting is planned for next week.

But after the violent protests, a meeting is warranted more than ever, say many Muslim Americans. Obama and Morsi have a lot to talk about, Muslim Americans say, from Islamophobia and human rights for religious minorities to Islamic extremism and cooperation.

Religious Rights

Many Muslim Americans said Obama should ask Morsi to guarantee the rights of religious minorities in Egypt, where Coptic Christians and others face both official and informal discrimination.

Eboo Patel, president of the Interfaith Youth Core in Chicago, said Obama should ask Morsi how he would ensure that all Egyptians' rights are respected.

Asma Afsaruddin, chair of the Department of Near Eastern Studies and Cultures at Indiana University, said Obama should ask Morsi how he will curtail sectarian violence and promote understanding between Muslims and Copts.?

?Peaceful co-existence of religious communities is after all recognized and celebrated within Islam -- how can you help to better realize this objective in contemporary Egypt?? Afsaruddin said.?

?I would like to see Obama express his hopes that the new Egyptian constitution will grant Christians and others in Egypt the same freedom to practice religion and participate in civil society as is granted to Americans under the First Amendment,? said Imad-ad-Dean Ahmad of the Minaret of Freedom Institute in Bethesda, Md.

Fight Extremism

Not surprisingly, many observers said Obama should press Morsi to fight Islamic extremism.

Alaa Badr of the Muslim Association of Puget Sound in Redmond, Wash., said he hoped Obama would ask Morsi about Egypt?s commitment to fight terrorism, especially in North Africa.

Ahmed Ahmed, an Egyptian-American comedian, wants Obama to ask Morsi if Egypt will ever be a country with freedom of speech.

Wajahat Ali, a Muslim-American activist and playwright, suggested Obama be short and direct, but acknowledge America?s problem with Islamophobia. ?You reign in your extremists, and I'll reign in ours,? Ali said.

Islamophobia

Many Muslims and non-Muslims said Obama should tell Morsi that most Americans are not anti-Muslim, but that he would speak more forcefully against Islamophobia.

Qamar-ul Huda, a senior officer at the Religion and Peacemaking Center at the U.S. Institute of Peace in Washington, said Obama should say that ?The U.S. government and society at large does not reflect the hysterical and outrageous Islamophobic sentiments of the few.?

?He needs to talk about Muslims in the U.S., to show that the U.S. is not at war with Islam,? said Hussein Rashid, an Islamic studies lecturer at Fordham University.

Shared Values

Several Muslim Americans said Obama should also get back to diplomatic basics, such as America?s and Egypt?s long history of cooperation.

?He has to return to the theme of an ally, and talk about the reciprocal nature of that relationship,? said Rashid.

Huda said Obama should pledge to support Egypt while also demanding that it respect basic human rights. ?The U.S. stands with all young emerging democratic societies and we will be supportive in all of its stages of growth,? said Huda, describing what he thinks Obama should tell Morsi. ?Our nations share a common heritage in areas of culture, education, economics. Let us build on our common interests and goals, and when we differ, let us remind ourselves this is natural and healthy for our friendship.?

Jobs

One way to fight Islamic extremism, many Muslims say, is with jobs, especially for young people. According to a 2011 report from the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life, about 60 percent of Muslims in Muslim-majority countries were under 30 in 2010, but many of these youth are unemployed and vulnerable to extremism.??

With that in mind, al-Husein N. Madhany, an associate at Samasource.org, an employment website focusing on the developing world, said Obama should focus on three things: ?Jobs, jobs, jobs.?

Other issues that observers wanted Obama to raise with Morsi included the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Iran?s nuclear program, and protection for American embassies and diplomats. There were a few observers, however, who said Obama should stay mum.

?Perhaps Obama should not say anything. Maybe he should listen to what Morsi has to say,? said Sherifa Zuhur, director of the Institute of Middle Eastern, Islamic, and Strategic Studies in Carlisle, Pa.

Louie, Season 3

You?re right, Jonah: a Late Show With Louis C.K. would probably consist of meta-jokes and jerk-off confessions, among other things. And it would, apparently, be pretty good! I would tune in, anyway. The believable charm of that test episode was one of the more impressive things about last night?s Louie.

The most impressive? Probably that ending. We all knew that Louie wouldn?t end up getting the Late Show gig?though we never considered one possibility: that he could have gotten the job, and then C.K. could have just ignored that plot point for the rest of the series, continuity (as almost always) be damned. Or C.K. could?ve intermittently dipped from here on out into an alternate universe wherein Louie hosts a late-night show. Heck, he could still do that. It would be an appropriate tribute to David Lynch, with shades of Mullholland Dr.

But for now I?m happy with the way this arc played out?and especially that last-minute shift from dejection to triumph. The episode?s early moments harkened back to last week?s theme of being yourself and the showbiz pressure to be someone else. The final lesson, though?and I agree that there was one, Jonah?was not the Polonius pabulum of ?To thine own self be true,? but something along the lines of, ?Push yourself to be something more.? Sure, that sounds like a Nike slogan, but it?s not terrible advice. And C.K.?s current success really is a tribute to an incredible work ethic, so why not portray that? I?m a childless child of Seinfeld, too, Jonah, but that show, for all its greatness, was somewhat limited by its refusal to consider life lessons at all. C.K. is working with a wider palette.

And I loved the boxing sequence at the end, which seemed to function differently than most of the show?s epilogues. I took it to be an additional scene, one that happened after Letterman signed his new contract. Louie is still fighting, getting in shape, wanting more. He?s no longer circling failure in a rapidly decaying orbit.

I didn?t mind the sentimental scenes with the daughters, either. Yes, the music was a bit much; that was also the case when Seinfeld told Doug and Louie to keep it a secret that he got the job, and they both realized, per Jack Dahl?s words of wisdom, that he must be lying. A look between the two would have sufficed; instead we got somber music and the two men repeating Dahl?s words. (Granted, C.K. declined to show Louie later realizing that of course Tardigan was playing him all along: He told Louie to keep Letterman?s retirement a secret, so Louie should have known it was bogus.)

But heartwarming moments between parents and children happen pretty often, if my Facebook feed is any indication?so refusing to depict such scenes would arbitrarily limit the material out there in the world that C.K. has to work with. And, to be honest, I found that moment with the daughters genuinely touching.

That?s not to say the episode was perfect. There were two more training montages than were absolutely necessary, for instance, and the narrative beats at the end felt a little rushed. I still think the Parker Posey-starring two-parter is the season?s highlight. But I will gladly watch this three-episode sequence again?for me, the ultimate test of a TV show.

Two other notes before I ask Allison whether we?re both being too kind. This series has gone to some dark places?lonely funerals followed by seedy strip joints, sad sexual encounters that end with women crying, borderline sexual assault. But nothing we?ve seen has been quite as grim as Louie trying to make Jack Dahl laugh on command. That was gruesome. Dahl?s response, on the other hand??You just bought yourself another week??was hilarious. As was the tag: Dahl telling Doug, previously unseen, to leave.

Finally, there?s a little bit of possibly-relevant backstory that gives the conclusion some added poignancy. C.K. wrote for Letterman back in the mid-?90s?around the time, if I have my chronology right, that he did one of his earliest network stand-up spots, on Letterman?s show. He only had that job a few months before going to write for the doomed Dana Carvey Show. And then he went 15 years without appearing on Late Show,* even though, as he put it, ?Dave?s who I watch.? As of last year, at least, he couldn?t explain the apparent ban?but he was told, apparently, that ?I?m not OK there anymore.? He did finally go on Letterman again late last year, but he looked distinctly uncomfortable, and his set was only so-so. Having all this in mind gave that ?fuck you? at the end a little more oomph.

* Why do they all say ?Late Show,? by the way, rather than ?the Late Show?? At first I thought this was one of Dahl?s many quirks, but then Seinfeld said it that way, too. Is it like how CIA agents never say ?the CIA,? but instead drop the article?

(AP) ? Hundreds of thousands of Chicago public school students are returning to class after teachers ended their seven-day strike.

Sixteen-year-old Jayton Howard was on his way to Paul Robeson High School on the South Side, and he summed up his feelings in a word: "Great."

Parents were happy too. The strike in the nation's third-largest school district idled its roughly 350,000 students and left many parents scrambling to arrange alternative care for their children.

Some parents expressed hope Wednesday that the tentative contract agreement will benefit students in a district grappling with high dropout rates and poor performance.

Parent Leslie Sabbs-Kizer, referring to her children as she walked them to elementary school, said: "They'll win from the strike."

Lady Gaga Gains A Few?Maybe She Had The Munchies

Lady Gaga is always hot. Seriously, girlfriend rocks a leotard like no other. But these recent pics show that time is taking its toll on her. Or maybe it’s the fact that she is in Amsterdam and taking full advantage of their laws. Like smoking. Seems like girlfriend has been hitting that ganja and maybe got the munchies? She doesn’t look bad. I mean for real. She looks like a normal girl. Stuffed in a very small bodysuit. It is being reported that she gained about 30 lbs, but I think it is more like 15. I means he is 5″1′. 15 could easily look like 30 on someone who is that short. During her Amsterdam concert, Gaga talked about how she uses pot to help her write and to relax. She even joked that she would talk to President Obama about legalizing marijuana. “I want you to know it has totally changed my life and I’ve really cut down on drinking,” she told her Dutch Little Monsters. “It has been a totally spiritual experience for me with my music.” And in Holland someone threw up a nice spliff for her to enjoy. She took a few puffs and then [...]
